This City Reads! Night at Canal Park Scheduled for June 13

Summit Education Initiative, along with Akron-Summit County Public Library and The University of Akron Center for Literacy, are planning the 2017 This City Reads! Night for June 13. Families are encouraged to attend the Akron RubberDucks vs. Harrisburg Senators game, which begins at 7 p.m. that evening at Canal Park in downtown Akron. Read more about the event in this post.


This City Votes Contest Encourages Students to Speak Up

The Akron Beacon Journal, the Jefferson Center and Summit Education Initiative are working together on the project in an effort to highlight voting and politics in a positive light. They’re enlisting kids to submit humorous, insightful and creative videos to accomplish that goal. Read more about a #ThisCityVotes16 video contest in this post.


This City Reads! Night Brings World Record Attempt to Canal Park

For the love of books and baseball, local nonprofit organizations invite Greater Akron community members to the annual This City Reads! Night at Canal Park on Wednesday, June 15. And this year, there’s truly a homerun of fun to look forward to. Why? This City Reads! Night attendees will attempt the Guinness World Record for the Largest Greeting Card Exchange during the game.
