On Wednesday, Jan. 11, elementary principals representing all Akron Public Schools‘ clusters attended a Readiness Coalition Orientation Session at the Andrew Jackson House in Akron. Laura DiCola, Summit Education Initiative‘s Early Childhood Strategy Leader, led the one-hour session to provide principals with important information, tools and a road map to support them with moving forward in forming a coalition.

“We are grateful for all principals’ leadership and commitment to this county-wide initiative,” DiCola says.

Readiness Coalitions, which launched last year, are community conversations on early learning and school readiness. Individuals who work with young children in each school district of Summit County are invited to meet with others in their district to explore ways they can work together to prepare children for kindergarten success.

Looking into their first year, Akron Public Schools’ Readiness Coalitions are encouraged to focus on building relationships among early childhood education contacts within their communities. The goal is to better align school readiness efforts for children.
