“The Early Childhood Effect”
2017 School Readiness Summit
Summit Education Initiative, along with our First Things First community partners, are excited to welcome you to Summit County First Things First‘s Second Annual School Readiness Summit, which is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 at the John S. Knight Center. The event, presented by PNC, will further build support for early childhood education efforts in Summit County. Although more than 530 individuals attended the inaugural 2016 School Readiness Summit, the 2017 planning committee hopes to see an even larger crowd attend this year’s Summit – one we will continue to expand from year-to-year.
Registration is now open! The 2017 event will feature a full day of interactive presentations, including two from nationally recognized speakers, engaging breakout sessions and many opportunities to connect with others in your field, whether you are an educator, school administrator, community leader, business professional or government official. View the event agenda and breakout session descriptions here. Ohio-Approved credit and Continuing Education credit are pending approval.
Dr. Dana Suskind, professor of surgery at the University of Chicago, director of the Pediatric Cochlear Implant Program and Founder and Director of the Thirty Million Words® Initiative, will speak about the importance of early literacy and introducing children to language early.
Dr. Rosemarie Allen, assistant professor in the School of Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver and CEO of the Institute for Racial Inequality & Excellence, centers her work on ensuring children have access to high-quality early childhood programs. Allen will speak about the effects of preschool expulsion and implicit bias in early childhood classrooms.
