A New Beginning Marks an End

The following is a message from Summit Education Initiative Executive Director Derran Wimer. It appears in the September 2017 “Align & Engage” e-newsletter.

Yet again, summer is coming to a close, another school year is upon us and students have spent the past few weeks settling back into their classrooms. This includes our summer intern, Michelle Burrier, who has again returned to the University of Cincinnati for her junior year of college.

Michelle Burrier, Summit Education Initiative intern

Summit Education Initiative’s summer intern, Michelle Burrier, helps children with an activity at the 2016 Good Beginnings Fair in Barberton.

We thank Michelle for all of her hard work toward the coordination of last month’s Good Beginnings Fairs, as well as the Summit County First Things First “The Power of Play” room at the Summit For Kids Expo on Aug. 19. She did a great job assisting our work during the past few months.

Michelle participated in this summer’s Leadership Akron: Edge program as well. Leadership Akron, one of Summit Education Initiative‘s key partners, and Torchbearers offer Edge to college interns/early career professionals to connect them to established community leaders and organizations making a positive difference in our community and to show Akron’s advantages. Each Edge session offers access to community decision-makers and lessons for personal and professional success.

We look forward to working with Michelle more in the future as she continues to work on earning her degree.
