Students have opportunities to be part of the game
Summit Education Initiative, along with Akron-Summit County Public Library and The University of Akron Center for Literacy, are planning the 2017 This City Reads! Night for June 13. Families are encouraged to attend the Akron RubberDucks vs. Harrisburg Senators game, which begins at 7 p.m. that evening at Canal Park in downtown Akron.
The planning committee will award 20 Summit County students two free tickets – one each for them and a parent or guardian – to watch the game from the Akron RubberDucks loge. To enter for a chance to win, students must complete a brief written piece about a book they have read at www.thiscityreads.org. Half of the winning students will be assigned a role during the game, whether they throw the first pitch, announce “PLAY BALL!”, etc.
The submission deadline is Friday, May 19. The planning committee will compile and publish all submissions in a book later this summer.
Families may purchase June 13 game tickets at www.seisummit.org/TCRtickets.
Thank you to The Mary S. and David C. Corbin Foundation for supporting This City Reads!
